What Does "Spirituality" Mean To You?

I believe spirituality is often misunderstood. People may think that being spiritual means you are religious. That’s not necessarily true; a person can be spiritual and not religious—the two words are not synonyms.

Spirituality is relating to your spirit or soul nature and not your physical nature. It takes place in the mind, not a church. It is searching for and finding a God of your own understanding.

Even if you don’t believe in God, you believe in something because everything in the world cannot mean nothing. Something has meaning for you. Therefore, whatever you believe in is your God.

I challenge you to grab a journal and write today’s date on the top of a page. Underneath the date write “What is Spirituality?” and then free-write for a few minutes about what spirituality means to you.

If you’d like, you can play this music in the background to help keep you relaxed and focused on your writing.
